2016 Semper Pinot Noir hails from the acclaimed Fort Ross Vineyard which sit at 1500 feet above sea level. The Pinot Noir blocks specifically lie at 1500 feet, just above the fog line. The cool temperatures help retain the grapes’ natural acidity, and thanks to the vineyard's climate and well-drained soil, the fruit is forward, bright and enticing. Aromas of fresh strawberries, red cherry and rose petal are balanced a bouquet of forest floor, mushroom and rhubarb.
The wine was fermented in a small open top stainless-steel tank, with approximately 20% whole clusters. We then aged the wine sur lie for 12 months in an equal proportion of medium toast French oak barrels and our concrete egg fermenters, creating a balance of flavors, complex bouquet and inviting texture.
